UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ, June 27, 2017 – Onkyo unveils a powerful new THX® Integrated System-certified home theater that’s ready to deliver an adrenaline-pumping reference film or gaming experience right from the box as it ships with everything needed in a single carton – just connect a TV or projector.
The 7.1 Channel HT-S9800THX A/V Receiver & Speaker Package (MSRP: $1,399 USD / $1,999.99 CAD) is unique among HTiB systems in that it delivers theater-reference and factory-balanced surround-sound in a single convenient package, while eliminating the guesswork inherent when purchasing individual components and speakers. Shipping with all the necessary peripherals such as speaker cables and setup microphone for the AccuEQ system, users need only follow the GUI setup to have their home theater calibrated and ready to play.
Sophisticated video performance features pass-through of 4K HDR, including HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), BT.2020, and 4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit video via six rear HDCP 2.2-compliant HDMI® terminals, ensuring wide compatibility with UltraHD televisions offering 4K High Dynamic Range reproduction.
A front HDMI input*1 is handy for temporary device connections (such as a video camera), while HDMI Sub Out*2 can connect a projector or secondary display.
The HT-S9800THX retains the substantial two-way, acoustic-suspension speakers that made its predecessor a worldwide best-seller. Complete with iconic A-OMF drivers and front-firing subwoofer, the unit now adds a new state-of-the-art 210W/ch network A/V receiver loaded with features that bring theater-quality sound at home.
Users can play spatially mixed Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X™ soundtracks, while Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X™ up-mix legacy soundtracks on DVD and Blu-ray™ for convincing playback when using a pair of the four supplied surrounds in Front Top configuration.
Alternatively, these speakers can be deployed as Rear Surrounds in a 7.1 layout, or connected to the receiver’s Powered Zone 2 outputs for stereo distribution of network, S/PDIF, and analog music sources—all while retaining an immersive 5.1 configuration in the living room.
Selectable 5 GHz/2.4 GHz Wi-Fi® supports wireless multi-room audio distribution and music streaming via Chromecast built-in*3, which also adds voice control capability when used with Google Home. AirPlay®, DTS Play-Fi®*4, and Bluetooth® technology are also on board.
Audio services include Pandora®, Spotify®*5, TIDAL*5, Deezer*5 and TuneIn*5, which along with any network-attached music on media server, can all be queued up with the Onkyo Controller*6 app and be sent to Onkyo NCP-302 Wireless Speakers in other rooms over FireConnect™*7 powered by Blackfire.
Unlike other wireless distribution systems, FireConnect™ also enables audio from players connected to the receiver’s external analog terminals*8 to also be shared wirelessly. So, a favorite LP or CD could be enjoyed in multiple rooms at the same time.
The receiver’s non-phase-shift amplifiers, the heart of Dynamic Audio Amplification, are fed via an advanced digital signal processing system comprising of a 384 kHz/32-bit (AK4458) DAC and patented VLSC™ filtering that erases pulse noise, preserving the fidelity of the original recording.
High-output EI transformer, audio-grade capacitors, and discrete output transistors deliver instantaneous high-current power to the speaker drivers for improved clarity and control.
Whether enjoying the convenience of streaming movies encoded with 5.1 Dolby® Digital, your Hi-Res music library, or a pure analog source, the receiver and speakers are perfectly balanced to produce spacious, detailed and rhythmic sound.
